The Sustainable Empowerment Project

The “Sustainable Empowerment” project represents a pioneering development partnership under the umbrella of the Civil Society Organizations Development Sector (Funded Projects Management) at Misr El Kheir Foundation.

The project aims to establish an inclusive and participatory sustainable development approach while strengthening the role of civil society organizations at both local and national levels in addressing climate change and implementing sustainable solutions that serve local communities.

Governance Development

Building and developing the institutional capacities of partner organizations in the areas of good management and governance.

Climate Awareness

Enabling local partners to develop a clear development vision supported by accurate knowledge of Sustainable Development Goals and climate action.

Community Participation

Increasing and activating citizens’ participation in local initiatives that support environmental and social sustainability.

Local Coordination

Establishing effective and sustainable coordination mechanisms between civil society organizations and local government entities to implement climate and development plans.

Participation in Decision-Making

Creating clear channels that ensure the participation of non-governmental organizations in developing national policies and decisions related to sustainable development.

Main

Activities & Intervention Areas

The project activities are divided into five main areas:

Institutional Capacity Building

Conducting comprehensive institutional assessments, signing partnership agreements, implementing specialized training programs, and providing continuous technical support visits.

Sustainable Development Practitioner Program

Enrolling partners in advanced training programs covering:
-Long-term sustainability -Human rights
-Gender mainstreaming -National strategic directions

Local Initiatives & Participatory Planning

Conducting participatory field research and organizing competitions to select and fund at least 8 innovative community initiatives implemented by grassroots organizations.

Advocacy Campaigns & Smart Observatories

Training partners on advocacy campaigns, establishing a "Smart Observatory for Sustainable Development Standards", and launching a periodic Sustainable Development Forum in each governorate.

Community Dialogue & Policy Development

Organizing roundtable discussions (4 sessions in each governorate and 4 sessions in Cairo), activating the Central Sustainable Development Observatory at the Foundation, and holding annual and final conferences to develop scenarios for strengthening the role of civil society in climate policies.

Sustainable Empowerment Project — Luxor Governorate

The Sustainable Empowerment Project has achieved tangible milestones and strategic outputs through several key areas:

First: Partnerships & Institutional Networking

نجح مشروع “تمكين مستدام” في تحقيق خطوات ملموسة ومخرجات إستراتيجية على أرض الواقع تشمل المحاور التالية:

Signing official partnership agreements with 5 grassroots organizations to ensure comprehensive geographical coverage across:

  • Esna
  • Al Tod
  • Al Bayadiya
  • Al Zayniya
  • Al Qurna

Signing 5 cooperation agreements with major executive and community entities in Luxor Governorate, including:

  • Luxor Directorate of Agriculture
  • Environmental Affairs Agency
  • National Council for Women
  • Drinking Water and Wastewater Company
  • Establishment of the Advisory Committee
Forming the Sustainable Empowerment Project Advisory Committee consisting of 13 members representing various relevant entities and stakeholders in Luxor Governorate to ensure effective governance and guidance of project activities.

Second: Field Studies & Research

Preparing a comprehensive environmental, economic, and social profile study of Luxor Governorate using the Participatory Rapid Appraisal (PRA) methodology to accurately reflect local community needs.

Third: Capacity Building & Community Initiative Funding

Implementing 4 interconnected training workshops aimed at developing local capacities and covering:

  • Participatory Rapid Appraisal
  • Participatory Planning
  • Community Initiative Design
  • Community Resource Mobilization

Signing 3 cooperation protocols to launch innovative community initiatives supporting sustainability objectives in:

  • Al Tod
  • Al Bayadiya
  • Al Zayniya

Fourth: Policy Papers & Decision Support

Preparing the initial version of a policy paper titled:

“Enhancing the Role of Civil Society in Supporting Climate-Smart Agriculture in Luxor Governorate.”

Preparing the initial version of a fact sheet addressing:

“Enhancing Agricultural Waste Management and Recycling to Achieve Economic Development and Climate Action in Luxor Governorate.”

Fifth: Digital Transformation & Monitoring

Successfully establishing and launching the website and Regional Observatory for the Sustainable Empowerment Project, serving as a smart tool for monitoring sustainable development and climate action indicators.
