Event Details

As part of the activities of the “Enhancing the Role of Non-Governmental Organizations in Sustainable Development and Climate Action at the Local Level for Inclusive Sustainable Development (Sustainable Empowerment)” project, implemented by the Nag El Dar Islamic Charity Association in partnership with Misr El Kheir Foundation and with the support of the European Union, the Association organized its first roundtable discussion titled:

“Enhancing the Role of Civil Society in Supporting Climate-Smart Agriculture in Luxor Governorate.”

The roundtable was held on June 11, 2026, at the Luxor Conference Center, with approximately 35 participants representing government entities, civil society organizations, the private sector, experts and researchers, as well as a number of male and female farmers.

The roundtable aimed to strengthen dialogue among stakeholders in the agricultural sector and discuss ways to support the transition toward climate-smart agriculture in Luxor Governorate, based on the findings of the Environmental, Social, and Economic Profile Study of the Governorate, thereby contributing to addressing climate-related challenges and enhancing the sustainability of the agricultural sector.

The event included a presentation of the study findings and an overview of several successful experiences in climate-smart agriculture, followed by participatory working sessions addressing five key areas:

  1. The impact of climate change on the agricultural sector.
  2. Building farmers’ capacities and strengthening agricultural extension services.
  3. Improving the efficiency of water resource management.
  4. The role of civil society organizations in financing, marketing, and agricultural value chains.
  5. Strengthening partnerships and alliances that support sustainable agricultural development.

The discussions resulted in a set of practical recommendations emphasizing:

  1. The importance of strengthening cooperation between government entities, the private sector, and civil society organizations.
  2. Providing farmers with access to knowledge and modern technologies.
  3. Expanding the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices to support sustainable development and strengthen the agricultural sector’s capacity to adapt to climate change.

The outcomes of the roundtable also formed the basis for preparing the policy paper titled:

“Transitioning Toward Climate-Smart Agriculture in Luxor Governorate: Opportunities, Challenges, and Intervention Priorities,”

which includes a number of recommendations aimed at supporting the development of the agricultural sector and strengthening partnerships at the local level.
